Be wary of Wi-Fi

Few travelers would disagree that Wi-Fi is their best friend when they venture away. Rightly or wrongly, it’s one of the top things that some people look for when seeking out an area or hotel.

However, as soon as you leave a country such as the U.S., the risks stack up. It’s not been unheard of for some hotels to install software on your devices, which is why up-to-date internet security software is absolutely essential. At the same time, particularly if the hotel isn’t part of a high-profile chain, be prepared to question if it really is a safe network to connect to.

USB charging stations aren’t always what they seem to be

Usually because of the differences in power that sockets around the world output, we all know the perils of wandering around a foreign city with a very low battery charge on our cell phone. There is subsequently great relief when we set eyes on a USB charging outlet at an airport or train station.

Unfortunately, these charging stations aren’t always what they seem to be. While some are perfectly fine, it hasn’t been unheard of for others to have been tampered with. Again, this can result in all sorts of unscrupulous files being downloaded onto your device and ultimately, be wreaking havoc with your life.

Store anything important on the cloud

A lot of you will probably do this anyway, but whilst traveling there’s no doubt that the cloud can be even more important for you.

Unfortunately, border patrols have immense power when it comes to searching through your technology. Any files you have stored on there can be up for grabs, but of course this isn’t the case if the files are based on the cloud.

It might not be feasible for you to keep this as a permanent solution, but if you have particularly sensitive files on your computer, it can be an idea to temporary place them on the cloud to avoid any data loss whilst on the move.
