Google is preparing its new flagship model Pixel 2, which won’t arrive until late 2017. It’s a premium model that must compete with the iPhone 7 and Samsung Galaxy S8 with its Snapdragon 836 chipset, which is going to be used for a first time on a phone.
Release Date & Prices
The release of Pixel 2 should be somewhere in October 2017 since this was the date when the previous model was released. Moreover, the Nexus models were also revealed in September or October every year.
According to the CEO of Star Infranet, Anand Mishra the new flagship model of the company will have a higher price tag than its predecessor, which is definitely bad news for fans.
The old models started at $649 and $769 for the XL version, which was considered expensive by many.
Two Models
According to the latest rumors, Google is going to reveal only two Pixel models, whereas the 2 XL has been canceled. Some analysts believe that the company is going to release a 5.99-inch handset in the near future.
There are rumors that Google’s going to offer three Pixel phones, whereas one of them would be 2XL. However, this is highly unlikely for the moment.
Display
Similar to the iPhone 8, some experts say that the Pixel 2 might be available with a curved screen. Not long ago, Google made an order for OLED screens to LG Display Company
The leaks show that the Pixel 2 phone might feature a 5.6-inch 18:9 screen with a 2,560 x 1,312 resolution. The display’s ratio is going to make it look super wide similar to the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Another source says that the Pixel XL might have a 6-inch AMOLED screen, which will also be supplied by LG. Moreover, the screen will be easily customizable by users, and it will include a “Vivid Colors” mode.
Design
The new Pixel 2 phone will feature a metal and glass back, whereas the fingerprint sensor will be placed on the metal surface. We thought that the 3.5mm headphone port might be ditched, but leaked photos show otherwise.
The power and volume buttons can be found on the side of the phone similar to the old models. The images show that the Pixel 2 XL will feature an almost bezel-free design.
Similar to the iPhone’s and Samsung’s flagship models, the Pixel 2 will be waterproof. All in all, the design will be similar to its predecessors but enhanced with added water resistance.
Camera & Battery
As you might have guessed, the new Pixel flagship will feature an enhanced camera. The rear 12MP camera will support 4K video, whereas the front-facing one will be 7MP.
We don’t have any leaks about the battery yet, but we do expect a considerable improvement in its capacity for both models.
Internal specifications
Rumors have it that the new Google flagship model will include the Snapdragon 836 chipset, making it the first phone using this processor.
It will feature a 10% performance increase, as well as significant improvements to the battery’s life. The same source reveals that Google is testing a budget-friendly Pixel model with downgraded specs at an affordable price.
All rumors show that the new Pixel phone is going to be considerably enhanced by Google in order to keep up with the competition. However, nothing is certain until October so stay tuned as we update you with the latest news around this new fantastic phone.
